Exhibition "Touch Sensitive - Modern Classics"

The joint exhibition of media design and leather design departments of the Tartu Art College.

On Friday, October 27, 2017, at 6 p.m., the joint exhibition "Touch Sensitive - Modern Classics" by media design and leather design students of the Tartu Art College was opened at the Gallery Noorus. The exhibited works have been completed in the period from 2004 to 2017 under the guidance of Rutt Maantoa, Tõnu Ojaperve, Ardo Sägi and Jaanus Eensalu.

The concept of the exhibition is the opposition to the computer-centeredness of the modern media design. Students will present how to make a contemporary art, using old classical techniques such as linocut, etching, drypoint, stone lithography, serigraphy, and bookbinding. The works of the students from two departments have their own personal touches, thus, they are touch sensitive in a broader sense than the light-emitting LED screens.

Binding art is very technical in nature, requiring a sensitive and secure hand. The same qualities are also characteristic to the graphic arts, where the main focus is on the paper and the skillful handwork. These two can not be separated from each other.

In addition, different stages of creating graphic art will be presented at the exhibition: preparation of the printing plate, making designs, and applying various techniques to the plate, stone, linoleum or leather. There is also a video about the printing process, in which unique works are born and each reprint retains individuality through the intervention of a human being.
